Broken Sprinkler Line

Loss of pressure, geysers, dry spots and overly saturated areas are a few of the problems associated with broken sprinkler lines.
 
Tips
  • It is important wear gloves when working with PVC primer and glue.
  • Do not store PVC in the sun, it degrades and weakens the pipe structure.

Sprinkler System Lay Out

If you live where watering is year-round, consider a permanent sprinkler system.

Tips
  • An automated system keeps your garden thriving even while you're away.
  • Plan spray systems so that spray from each sprinkler reaches each adjacent sprinkler. If the site is windy, a slight overlap is a good idea.
  • If you live where soil freezes, be sure to install a system drain or a device that permits the pipes to be blown out. Check with utility companies before trenching.
 
Water Heater

Lacking hot water is no fun.Water heaters are not as maintenance free as some people would like to believe. Here are some useful tips on keeping your water heater running well.

Tips

To lower your utility bills, set your thermostat at or around 120 degrees. Drain the tank of sediment regularly to extend the life of your water heater.
 

 
 
Tub-and-Shower Valve Repair

The repairs for ball and disc faucets also work for those types of shower valves.

  • Cover the drain opening to prevent accidental loss of any small parts you drop.
  • Cover the floor of the tub or shower to protect it against damage.

Seal Wall Joints Around a Tub or Shower

Maintain the caulk joints around a tub or shower base before water penetrates that protective barrier.

  • Don't use grout to fill the joint between the tub and the wall.
  • Use caulk which is formulated for mildew resistance.
  • Avoid Metal tools can easily scratch or chip the surfaces of tubs and shower bases.
